Today, the only manufacturer of mechanical stopwatches in Russia is the Zlatoust Watch Factory. But even inside devices sold under renowned foreign brands, you can find mechanisms from Zlatoust—at various times, the factory supplied them to Western European countries, particularly Switzerland.
The production of mechanical stopwatches at ZChZ began back in the distant 1950s. And since then, more than 20 million units have rolled off the assembly line! Just think about this number. It was this device that recorded children's first achievements and world records, witnessed great scientific discoveries, and assisted in rescue operations...

The Russian military especially values this highly precise and reliable device, and this in the age of the dominance of electronics and high technology! It is reliable, can withstand extreme temperatures, is energy-independent (the mechanism is wound like a regular mechanical watch), and cannot be knocked down, silenced, or switched off remotely. Zlatoust stopwatches are therefore standard equipment on nuclear submarines and strategic bombers, and are also used by surface-to-air missile crews.
Today, ZChZ produces mechanical one- and two-button stopwatches with shock-resistant balance protection. Their operating principle is based on a spring-winding mechanism that ensures the movement of the hands. Starting, stopping and resetting measurements are carried out using buttons. Inside the case is a complex set of gears and springs that ensure precise timekeeping with an error of no more than a few hundredths of a second. Most stopwatches are certified to Class 2 accuracy, and for many of their electronic counterparts this is an unattainable result.
