Monocoque

The monocoque body is the calling card of ZChZ. Typically, a watch case consists of several main elements: the caseband, the bezel, the case back, the glass, the crown... Each connection requires precise fitting. And each joint is a place that the manufacturer treats with special attention. The AGAT ZChZ watch is designed differently. They do not have the usual separate back cover. Their body is one piece, machined from a metal blank. This type of body is called a monocoque.

The movement is fitted into the monocoque case from the dial side. The watch is subsequently serviced from the dial side as well. This configuration may seem unconventional, but the logic is simple: fewer openings and joints mean fewer potential paths for water ingress. The one-piece metal case enables AGAT watches to dive to depths of up to 750 metres while maintaining precise timekeeping.

For the Zlatoust Watch Factory, the monocoque is more than just an engineering solution. This is the calling card of AGAT watches.

Монокок

The history of the Zlatoust monocoque began in the mid-20th century, with a special order from the USSR Navy. ZChZ engineers faced a difficult task: to create a watch that could operate reliably underwater. Such watches had to be water-resistant and able to withstand high water pressure at depth without losing their accuracy.

That's when the idea arose to minimize the number of parts, holes between them, and cracks through which water could penetrate. And place the watch mechanism in a monocoque case, which was cast from a single piece of steel, the so-called “unibody”.

Монокок

This is how the design emerged, which remains one of the main features of AGAT watches today. Collections made of steel, bronze, titanium, zirconium, titanium or titanium-zirconium Damascus – all of them have solid all-metal cases. Currently, ZChZ is the only company in the country that produces wristwatches in a monocoque case.

In a world where many watches look alike, AGAT maintains its own architecture. Not borrowed, not random, not decorative. Its form grew out of a specific task, not out of fashion. That's why it looks so convincing.

Монокок

The monocoque has its own special beauty. Not jewelry, not ostentatious, not delicate. The beauty of metal. The beauty of an engineering solution in which there is nothing superfluous. The beauty of a thing made with an understanding of why it exists.

Today, AGAT watches are no longer a closed, special-purpose product. They are chosen by a wide variety of people: collectors, fans of Russian watches, and those who appreciate the aesthetics of large instrument cases. But the monocoque remains the core that connects the modern collection with the factory’s history.

Монокок

It makes the watch recognizable.
He maintains the diving logic.
It gives the case the feeling of a solid metal protection.
It turns massiveness not into a design technique, but into a continuation of the structure.

Without the monocoque, the AGAT watch could have remained large, strong, and expressive. But it is with him that they become themselves.

This is not a detail that only an engineer can see. This is what forms the first impression, respect for the product and trust in the factory.

Monocoque is not just a way to create a body.
This is a way to maintain character.
