The direction of rotation of the crown is clockwise.<\/p>\n<h3>How do self-winding watches work?<\/h3>\n<p>A self-winding mechanical watch has a special rotor that winds the movement as the watch is worn. The rotor is a crescent-shaped weight with an off-centre mass. It rotates as the position of the wrist changes. Automatic winding operates only while the watch is worn regularly. Regular wear of 10-12 hours per day is sufficient to keep the mainspring wound. If you wear your watch irregularly and do not make active movements of your hands during the day, you will have to wind the watch manually.<\/p>\n<p>You can also use a watch winder: a motorised storage device for self-winding watches. It keeps the watch in motion so that it continues to run. This option is suitable for those who wear watches occasionally.<\/p>\n<p>From a fully unwound state, 20-25 turns of the crown are required to fully wind the movement; all self-winding movements are fitted with an overwind-protection device.
